Prior to the establishment of the No Wrong Door Resource Team, A Statewide Advisory Council for the Integration of Community-Based Services (SACICS) was created in 2005. SACICS predated the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) grant award. Before receiving the ADRC grant, Virginia recognized the need for a Community Based Coordinated Care System (CCSS) or a No Wrong Door approach. SACICS met four times in 2005 and the mission of this group was expanded to incorporate Virginia’s No Wrong Door initiative. The ADRC grant provided initial funding to lay the groundwork for developing technology and streamlining access to services by identifying and resolving barriers to access for consumers.
In September 2006, Virginia reconstituted SACICS to serve as the oversight group for the grant and the overall implementation of No Wrong Door in Virginia. SACICS was previously chaired by Secretary of Health and Human Resources, Marilyn Tavenner, with Virginia Department for the Aging’s former Commissioner, Julie Christopher, serving as vice chair.
No Wrong Door has gained tremendous support across various state agencies throughout the Commonwealth. As this initiative continues to gain momentum, various funding opportunities for sustainability have built upon the initial funding provided through the ADRC grant; federally through the Systems Transformation Grant, and at the state level through the Productivity Investment Fund. These funding streams require a differing composition of advisory support than what existed through SACICS.
As the No Wrong Door initiative is gaining more stakeholders at the state level, it is vital for the No Wrong Door leadership team to be comprehensive in including these new partners, consisting of advocates and experts who provide long-term care supports to Virginians.
