Assisted Living Facilities

Assisted Living Assisted Living Facilities are just one option to consider when reviewing your or another person's long-term care needs.

Assisted living facilities are one of the fastest growing long-term care options available today. Their popularity is due to their affordability and the homelike living arrangements offered for adults with differing degrees of functional capabilities. They are designed to promote individuality, personal dignity and freedom of choice for all of the individuals residing in the facility. Assisted living facilities provide varying levels of care depending on their classification, as follows:

  • Independent or Residential Living; or

  • Assisted Living.

Independent or Residential Living level services are intended to provide minimal assistance with daily activities for adults who have only minor limitations.

Assisted Living level services provide moderate assistance to those who may need more help than that offered at the Independent or Residential Living level. Assisted Living level services may include general oversight, health care services and help with activities of daily living.

Services at assisted living facilities may vary, so you should contact any facilities you are considering to get more information.

For more information on Assisted Living Facilities and other long-term care options, visit our Publications page and look under the subject headings "Assisted Living Facilities" or "Long-Term Care". You can also contact us for more information or assistance.
