The card programs shown in the table below are NOT a part of Medicare's Drug Discount Cards Program. Use the link shown above to obtain that information. The card programs shown below are offered by drug companies as alternatives to the cards offered in the Medicare Drug Discount Cards Program.

Additional information on prescription drug assistance programs is also available at Needymeds.com. You may also be able to save money by using generic drugs rather than brand-name drugs.

If you have questions about your health care coverage, call your local Area Agency on Aging (AAA) and ask to speak with a VICAP insurance counselor. To find the telephone number of your local Area Agency on Aging, look on this list or contact us.

Statewide Company-Sponsored Programs

Program: American Association of Retired Persons' (AARP's) MembeRx Choice Program

Contact: To join by phone, calltoll-free 1-800-456-2277. Join online.

Eligibility: Persons enrolling in MembeRx Choice® must be members of AARP, which requires that the person be 50 years of age or older, and pay an annual membership fee of $12.50.

Benefit: AARP members pay an annual fee of $19.95 per year and receive discounts of up to 47% on more than 5,000 medications at pharmacies nationwide. Home delivery of medications via mail is also available if prescriptions are ordered from the AARP Pharmacy.

Program: GlaxoSmithKlineOrange Card

Contact: To receive an application, call toll-free 1-888-ORANGE6 (1-888-672-6436) or visit their web site.

Eligibility: Annual income below $30,000 for an individual or $40,000 for a couple.

Benefit: Receive a 30% to 40% discount on drugs made by GlaxoSmithKline at participating pharmacies.

Program: Lilly Answers Card

Contact: To receive an application, call toll-free 1-877-795-4559 or visit their web site.

Eligibility: Annual income below $18,000 for an individual or $24,000 for a couple.

Benefit: Pay only $12 for each 30-day supply of a covered drug made by Lilly at participating pharmacies.

Program: Merck Patient Assistance Program

Contact: Patients can call toll-free 1-800 727-5400 (8 AM –8PM EST, Monday-Friday) to obtain a brochure on the program and an enrollment application, or visit the web site to request them online.

The application must be completed by both the patient and his or her physician.

Health care providers and their office staff, government, social service, or related agencies can call toll-free
1-800-994-2111 to obtain enrollment applications for patients and to request additional information.

Health care providers and their office staff may request applications, brochures, and a display kit online by visiting the web site.

Eligibility: Enrollees must:

1. Live in the U.S. and have a prescription for a Merck medicine from a doctor licensed in the U.S.
Enrollees do not have to be US citizens;

2. Not have insurance or other coverage for prescription medicines.
Enrollees must exhaust all other insurance options for coverage prior to enrollment; and

3. Be unable to afford to pay for their medicine. Limits on annual income are: for an individual, $18,000 or lower; for a couple, $24,000 or lower; and for a family of four, $35,000 or lower. If an enrollee's income is more than these amounts but special circumstances exist, their physician can request that an exception be made.

Benefit: Most Merck products are included in this program. A partial list of Merck medicines provided through the program can be found on their web site. Medicines distributed through the Merck Patient Assistance Program are free of charge to all eligible patients.


Novartis Care Card

Contact: Novartis is now issuing Together Rx Cards.

Eligibility: N/A

Benefit: N/A


Pfizer Pfriends Card

Contact: Call toll-free 1-866-776-3700 to speak to a Customer Service Representative or visit their web site.

Eligibility: Anyone without prescription drug coverage is eligible, regardless of age or income. Even if you have medical insurance, but not pres-cription drug coverage, you can stillqualify.

Benefit:Save 15% to 50% on the retail cash price of Pfizer medicines at either participating retail pharmacies or through their prescriptions by mail program. Enrolling in the program is free.

Partnership for Prescription Assistance Program (PPA)

Contact: Call toll-free 1-888-4PPA-NOW (1-877- 477-2669) to speak to a Customer Service Representative or visit their web site.

Eligibility: People who need help in obtaining medicines can visit the web site, fill out an online form and receive a list of programs for which they may qualify.

Benefit: If a patient qualifies for a program, a drug manufacturer will provide the drugs they need.



Together Rx Access Card

Contact: Call toll-free 1-800-444-4106 or visit their web site.

In addition to participating in the TogetherRx Access Card Program, each of the participating companies independently offers Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs). People applying to enroll for the Together Rx Access Card Program will be automatically notified if they may be eligible for further savings - and in some cases free medicines - through these PAPs.

Eligibility: Legal US residents under age 65 and who are otherwise not eligible for Medicare. They must also be without any private or pubic prescription drug program. Annual income must be below $30,000 for an individual or below $60,000 for a family of four. Income eligibility is adjusted for family size.

Benefit: Receive a 20% to 40% discount (or more) on over 275 brand name drugs at participating pharmacies.
